What is pay-what-you-can?
Tickets for the BAF Camp do not have a fixed price. Everyone contributes according to their real means β not just their salary, but their assets, privileges and safety nets. Those who are more financially comfortable pay more to allow those less privileged to attend.
Pay-what-you-can doesn't always work well β people with more means tend to underpay. That's why we invite you to reflect honestly on your situation before choosing your amount.
Of course, every situation is different: if you regularly send money to loved ones or have significant healthcare expenses, take that into account. Our Privilege-o-meter below can help you calculate a price that is fair to your situation.
This festival is a first edition. If we don't cover costs, the project will go into debt and undermine the possibility of future editions. We really count on your generosity and honesty for this project to be a success, especially financially. Any surplus will be redistributed to various (local) struggles, redistributed via the Fondation Marius Jacob* and MycΓ©lium**) or used to finance next year's edition.
* The Marius Jacob Foundation is a collective, self-managed financial tool that redistributes grants to activists, collectives and social movements in Belgium β and hosts our bank account.
** The Mycelium Foundation is a participatory private foundation that financially supports militant and alternative initiatives in Belgium through its network of patrons.
